(Atlantic City).- The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) announced that the state’s total gaming revenue reached $585.6 million for June 2026, marking a modest 0.7% growth compared to June 2025. While traditional retail casino results remained flat and sports betting revenue took a sharp hit from high player payouts during the NBA Finals and FIFA World Cup, a stellar performance in digital gaming pushed the state's year-to-date total to a commanding $3.52 billion.
Internet Gaming Records Strong Double-Digit Growth as Land-Based Casino Win Dips
The internet digital sector continues to be the primary engine of growth for New Jersey's gambling landscape. Internet Gaming Win for the state's internet casinos and their digital partners soared to $271.0 million in June 2026, reflecting a substantial 17.5% increase from the $230.7 million reported in June 2025. This stellar performance brought the year-to-date internet gaming total to $1.59 billion, a 15.0% surge compared to the first half of the prior year.
Brick-and-Mortar Performance Holds Steady Year-to-Date
In contrast to the online boom, brick-and-mortar casino performance experienced a minor bump. The Casino Win for Atlantic City's nine casino hotels totaled $257.3 million for June 2026, down slightly by 0.7% from the $259.0 million generated in the same month last year. Despite the monthly dip, the land-based sector remains in positive territory for the year, while the internet sector thrives, with a year-to-date Casino Win of $1.1 billion through June, tracking a 2.3% increase year-over-year.
World Cup and NBA Finals Payouts Drive Decline in Sports Betting Gross Revenue
While sports fans enjoyed a packed schedule of elite athletic competitions, the sportsbooks felt the squeeze of a low hold rate. Sports Wagering Gross Revenue for New Jersey casinos, racetracks, and their partners plummeted 37.7% in June 2026, bringing in $57.3 million compared to the $91.9 million reported in June 2025.
High Handle, Heavy Payouts
According to the DGE, the revenue contraction was not caused by a lack of betting activity, but rather by heavy patron winnings associated with the NBA Finals and ongoing FIFA World Cup matches. In fact, the total sports wagering handle—the overall amount of money bet by players—actually increased by 16.0% compared to June 2025. Through the first six months of 2026, New Jersey’s year-to-date sports wagering revenue stands at $513.0 million, down 7.1% from the $552.0 million recorded during the same period last year.
Despite the volatility in sports betting, the broader gaming industry remains highly profitable for the state. New Jersey collected $81.0 million in total gross revenue taxes for the month of June alone, bringing the year-to-date tax revenue contribution to a massive $500.5 million through the first half of 2026.
