(Baton Rouge).- While other markets around the country are reporting growth in casino revenues, Baton Rouge’s trio of riverboat casinos saw its numbers drop slightly last month, according to the state gaming board’s latest report.
Baton Rouge’s three casinos raked in $21.5 million in June, a 2% drop from May and a 4.5% decrease from the previous year.
L’Auberge continues to be the Capital Region’s highest-earning casino, taking in just shy of $16 million last month, while the area’s other two casinos, Belle of Baton Rouge and Hollywood Baton Rouge, reported $1.1 million and $4.4 million in revenues, respectively.
Overall, Louisiana casinos brought in just shy of $149 million in June, a 3% decrease from May and a 2% increase from last year.
The local decrease in revenues contrasts against national trends. While the Baton Rouge and Louisiana gaming markets posted losses last month, other markets in the North such as Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Detroit all reported increases for June.
Commercial gaming revenue in the U.S. topped $60 billion last year for the first time ever, according to Forbes, driven by a modest rise in slot and table gaming revenue along with an explosion in sports betting.
