(Spain).- Online gambling is one of the activities that has grown most in interest in Spain and has become one of the leading industries in the digital entertainment sector. Due to the multiple practices it offers to its users, current legislation has had to be updated to meet the new demands of the Internet, offering total security to players and exhaustive control of the games and the different games proposed.

Legality of online casinos in Spain

Nowadays, we can find a list of legal online casinos in Spain that offer users a wide range of services, such as different contents or ways to connect, as well as a total commitment and respect for society.

At the same time, in all online economic activity, payments are in the spotlight. It is within the obligation of any online casino to provide legal and secure methods to users. In addition to the classic credit and debit cards and money transfers, there are now more modern systems such as e-wallets, prepaid cards or the famous Bizum. The methods are regularly innovated and, with them, all the platforms that operate on the network.

Customer service is the third pillar of online gambling. According to the regulations, in order to convey peace of mind and confidence to the customer, any portal must be open to its users completely, quickly and effectively. In this way, there are no opening hours or public holidays: total availability. At the same time, emphasis must be placed on vulnerable profiles, who play intensively, limiting their activity and communicating with them.

In this respect, advertising is also restricted. In the audiovisual field, only four hours of advertisements are allowed and in the early hours of the morning, and the presence of public figures and celebrities is prohibited. In addition, welcome vouchers are another of the elements that present a series of limitations, especially among the younger, older audiences and those in vulnerable situations. These groups will not receive promotional packages and will not be included in any loyalty programme.

In Spain, practices such as those proposed by the online casino are completely legal and are subject to strict mandatory rules. The regulatory body, which goes by the acronym DGOJ, periodically updates formal aspects of the law with the aim of guaranteeing total security and player welfare, as well as trying to avoid the creation of situations of inequality among society or the presence of cyber-attacks that endanger internet users and the companies in question.

In the Iberian Peninsula, all platforms that focus on this activity have to answer to the Ley de Ordenación del Juego and to the body in charge of supervising this regulation, the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ). In the event that virtual gambling halls do not comply with the points that this law specifies, which we will go over below, they cannot obtain a licence to operate within the borders. Thus, any option available online is in compliance with the regulations.

One of the aspects that has been emphasised the most is technological security and possible third party threats that may occur. To ensure that they are completely safe from cyber-attacks, only games that have been reviewed and whose software is constantly updated are allowed to operate. A good way to see which content has the approval of the experts to be enjoyed is to look for the official Safe Gaming seal.
